Welcome back lovelies! For the next 5 days I am going to tell you what I LOVE about Korea!

Day 11

What I love about Korea

Korean culture is one of the best cultures I have ever learned about. When I compare our American culture to their culture, it is really shocking and makes me want to move to Korea...STAT!

Family is the main focus of Korean life. Just like with most places in the world, the father is the head of the family and makes all the decisions. From there the oldest son has the most responsibilities. It is his job to make sure the parents are taken care of and then the rest of the family follows a certain order; siblings from oldest to youngest, his sons, his wife and lastly his daughters.

Korean ancestors play a big part in the Korean culture as well. Koreans are raised knowing that no matter what they can never repay what parents have done for them. This is why ancestor worship is so strong in Korea. If you have watched Korean dramas you will note that they set up tables of food at certain times of the year (usually around Chuseok and New Year) for their ancestors.

Koreans are extremely prideful. It is important that you get to know the ones you are with to make sure that you do not hurt feelings or damage their pride. Koreans believe in living and socializing peacefully therefore there are times that they encounter situations where they have to lie or tell the partial truth in order to "save face".

How is this different from the culture in your country? I know that it is a MAJOR culture shock from American culture and I could get into that but I am afraid I would be here all day and would end up hurting a lot of feelings in the process.
